Nostalgia Overload of the Day: Every Thing On It, a collection of never-before-published poems and drawings by the late, great Shel “Uncle Shelby” Silverstein, was released today via HarperCollins.
The book includes 145 poems, including the bittersweet “Years From Now,” which reads: “Although I cannot see your face / As you flip these poems awhile / Somewhere from some far-off place / I hear you laughing—and I smile.”

I’ve always wanted to hollow a book, but it looks hard! I read this a few months back, and it looks easy enough, but 80 steps? I don’t think my attention span is up for it.

Oh my goodness, this book. I know everyone on Tumblr has read it, but still, THIS BOOK. Power Books Greenbelt sent me a text message the other night that they had this on hand, so after a long, stressful day at work, I bought it, thinking a new book would cheer me up, but ohgod, how wrong I was.
I’m not yet done with the book, but I am already captivated. I was reading it on the way to work today, and as a rule, I never read when I am in a moving vehicle unless I’m on an airplane, but I just couldn’t stop. Also, I was crying half of the time. GAAHHD. The last time I cried over a book when I read the 7th Harry Potter installment, and frankly, I don’t think that counts since it’s Harry Potter, who I’ve been with literally half of my life. But Alaska, Pudge, and Colonel, I’ve only met the other night, and I found myself so immersed in their story.
So, yeah.
